About us
The Urban Economics Council consists of the editors of three journals, ex officio, a program sub-committee that puts together the program for urban portion of the RSAI meeting, a treasurer and a sub-committee of "elders" members.
The ex officio members are the economics editor for the Journal of Economic Geography (currently Henry Overman), the editors for Regional Science and Urban Economics (currently Yves Zenou and Dan McMillen), and the editors for Journal of Urban Economics (currently Stuart Rosenthal and Will Strange).
The members of the "program sub-committee" each serve three year terms, with one person rotating off each year. Current members are Tom Holmes, Henry Overman, Esteban Rossi-Hansberg, and Kurt Schmidheiny.
Current treasurer is Francois Ortalo-Magne.
The member of the sub-committee of elders are senior figures in the profession, who provide links to the NARSC and play a general leadership role in the association. Current members are Richard Arnott, Vernon Henderson (Chair), John Quigley, and Jacques Thisse. Again these senior members serve three year terms, with the process of rotation off starting at the end of 2008-2009.
The ex officio journal members serve as a nominating committee for new members for both the program sub-committee and the elder sub-committee, with nominations approved by the overall council. Each sub-committee appoints one member as its chair for that year, for purposes of communication.
